Lately identity thieves have come up with some clever, but none-the-less illicit and harmful methods of trying to steal financial information, social security numbers and credit card data.
E-Mail, which in all respects, appears to have come from a legitimate financial institution, vendor or on-line bill paying company arrives asking you to input or update your specific payment information. This usually arrives appearing to be a routine information update document or a customer alert.
The arriving document looks as if it is a genuine document from the company, has the company logo and even has varying links to the company's web site. In all respects it often appears to be a valid request for personal and financial information from that company. The companies commonly used are:
- Wells Fargo
- Best Buy
- Pay Pal
- E-Bay
- Earthlink
If you use one of these companies, it may appear and make you feel as though you in fact need to update some specific information. Don't! If any of these companies need additional or updated information, they will contact you through other mediums.
