Recently after entering some demo customer sample data, AFFCOM was asked how the degree sign was entered as °. Further discussion ensued on other symbols and fractions that are easily available on the keyboard and we were asked to share these with other clients.
In forming the characters below simply press the ALT key and while you have it depressed press the assigned numbers on the numeric keypad and let go. Note: numbers must be pressed on the numeric keypad on the right had side of your keyboard.
For example ALt+0176 will give you the degrees symbol or °.
Others commonly used:
- ALT+0188 = ¼
- ALT+0189 = ½
- ALT+0190 = ¾
- ALT+0178 = ²
- ALT+0179 = ³
- ALT+0177 = ±
- ALT+0167 = §
- ALT+0169 = ©
- ALT+0174 = ®
- ALT+0153 = ™
- ALT+0162 = ¢
Character mapping can also be used when accent marks are required or desired. For example, the word resume can mean to "start again" or a "personal curriculum vitae". Yet the word resumé can only mean the latter. To achieve the é simply press ALT+0233.
