News > URL (Domain Name) Renewal
  Issued - 11/1/2005

In a recent situation, a heavily utilized site was down for two days for failure to renew their domain name in a timely matter. The site owner did not receive an e-mail notification of renewal because the administrative record at the registrar contained an old e-mail address from a previous ISP (Internet Service Provider). Almost all registrars provide an e-mail notification only.

Even though, on discovery, the domain name was renewed, often second-rate registrars will take an inordinately long time to re-activate the account - up to 72 hours. AFFCOM recommends that Network Solutions be used as the preferred registrar. While the URL registration and renewal may be a little more expensive, this firm’s reliability, service, security and expediency is worth the additional cost.

It is important to review your account record at your registrar to ascertain if the information contained therein is correct. You may do this at the registrar’s web site by logging in as the account manager or for a quick review click on:

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jhtml

then type in your domain name or URL in the space allotted for “Enter a Search Term”. If you discover that the e-mail address of the Administrative Contact is incorrect, you should log into the Account Manager at the Registrar’s site and correct it.

Should you require any assistance with this or require further information or clarification, please contact us at your convenience.
